Pressure, 2020, Acrylic on Canvas
Pressure was inspired by the unique and seemingly organized beauty of both geological structures and contorted human forms. Exceptional stress and intense environments are necessary for both to reach their potential. Carefully considered human postures are paired with the processes involved in the creation of featured minerals (and igneous rock). By painting imagery of the individual specimen’s process of formation, transposed on the human body, I reflected on ideas of chaotic development, structured beauty, and self-transformation (intentional or otherwise).
